Madness Against Malaria is reaching an exciting conclusion

Friday, 18 June 2010 20:35 by AndrewGarner

Madness Against Malaria is down to two teams. The Beantown 'Skeeter-beater Tetra-peaters have won the competition 3 years running and are aiming to make this their 4th title. This year they are up against newcomers Nests Shop who have been one step ahead of the current champions all through the final with lots of back and forth.

As I write the two finalists have raised over US$ 5,000 between them in the final round alone! That is enough to buy nearly 1,200 long lasting nets, protecting 2,400 children, on average. Currently Nests Shop have the edge, but only by 27 nets!

With only one day to go who will prevail? Check out the teams and lend them a hand!

Boston Celtics to honour a Malaria Hero

Friday, 6 March 2009 17:00 by RichardStacy

Next Friday, the Boston Celtics are going to be honouring Jessica Kraft - the leader of the Beantown Skeeter Beater team which won the Madness Against Malaria competition two years in succession, raising over $17,500 which bought 3,500 bed nets.

Jessica will receive the “Heroes Among Us” award at the Celtics’ home match of Friday 13 March.  This award was set up to recognise people who have made an overwhelming impact on the lives of others.

Madness Against Malaria is a challenge where teams compete against each other, over a series of rounds, to raise money to buy bed nets. Jessica’s team comprised people from the Rotract Club of the Boston University School of Public Health with the support of hundreds of people from across Boston and they won both the 2007 and 2008 competitions.

They are also entered in the 2009 competition, which is nearing the end of its qualification period before the time when teams competed directly against each other.  You can watch their progress here.  It is also not too late to enter your own team.

We hope to get some pictures from the event next week which we will post up here.

Preparing for March Madness

Tuesday, 26 February 2008 16:26 by RichardStacy

The World Swim Against Malaria is our original awareness and fundraising activity, but its success has lead to other organisations and individuals approaching us, looking to incorporate their own fundraising ideas into our infrastructure. This is something we are very happy to accommodate. One such initiative is Madness Against Malaria, which ran a very successful campaign in 2007 and is about to launch the final stages of its 2008 competition. More...
